The Tordrillo Mountains are part of the Alaska Range and are located about 100 km west of Anchorage. Some of the peaks are volcanic with large deposits of erosive tephra, which combined with glacial activity, have carved out unrivalled skiing and boarding runs throughout the range. They are heavily glaciated, partly due to their location near Cook Inlet and receive frequent snowfalls.
A snowpack of up to 10 metres is not unusual in this region. Breathtaking views of the Alaska Range and the massive peak of Mt. McKinley, with 6194 metres, the largest peak in North America, are part of the experience. The skiing is exceptional and as steep as it can get. Some of the landing zones are seriously exposed and intimidating, with great spines and couloirs to ski and board. Alaska is known for the ultimate steep skiing experience and will leave lasting impressions on you. The Tordrillo Mountain Lodge and their team are simply the best option for steep skiing and boarding in Alaska. Bear in mind though, Alaska also has a reputation for rough weather that may affect your programme. Patience is the secret to the Alaskan experience and it sure is worth it.
